Mykola Tomenko, Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, is convinced that Kyiv authorities support alcohol addiction among teenagers. It was declared by the politician giving comments regarding yesterday´s decision of the Kyiv council on rejection of the previous decision from December 23, 2010 on ban on sale of alcohol and tobacco goods in small architectural forms is their total area is lesser than 40 square meters.

"The fact that Kyiv authorities rejected their decision proves that good intentions declared by the new leaders of the Kyiv state regional council give the round to the necessity to agree with the real owners of small architectural forms selling alcohol and tobacco goods", M. Tomenko stated. He also declared that it is not a secret that the absolute majority of so-called Kyiv small architectural forms are business of high-ranking authorities, law-enforcement agencies, police and other dignitaries.

According to M. Tomenko, the fact that after the bill came into effect, leveled beer and low-alcohol beverages to alcohol and prohibited their sale in public places, small architectural forms preserved only places where teenagers can buy alcohol and tobacco goods is the most disappointing. "In such a way, Kyiv authorities stimulate and support alcohol addiction among teenagers", Deputy Chairman stressed.

M. Tomenko announced that he together with the People´s Deputies Viktor Korzh and Kateryna Vashchuk registered in the Parliament the bill on restriction of sale of alcohol beverages and tobacco goods (Reg. No8404) that suggests legislative ban on right of local self-government birdies implement restrictions on places for sale of beer, alcohol beverages and tobacco goods and prohibit sale of these goods in small retailing units that are placed within a radius of 100 meters from schools and pre-school establishments.
